The Interview with Sylvia Baffour
1) What inspired you to become a professional speaker?
As a Life Coach, I help my clients personally and professionally. After a few years of only doing one-on-one coaching, I wanted to share my messages with bigger audiences as well, so I began my professional speaking career.
2) At the present time, what's the song and music artist you enjoy listening to most?
This is a tough one to answer as I enjoy quite a few artists and listen to them equally as often. If I were to choose one that perhaps has a slight edge at the present moment, I would have to say Whitney Houston. Although she’s no longer with us, she still lives on through her incredible music which I listen to very often throughout my day.
3) What is the title and author's name of the last book you read cover-to-cover? What two things did you enjoy most about this book?
The last book I read was Happiness Is a Serious Problem by Dennis Prager. I enjoyed the fact that the book challenges readers to realize that we, and not any outside force, are the greatest obstacle to happiness. I also enjoyed the reminder that our happiness has an effect on the lives of everyone around us and it provides them with a positive environment in which to thrive and be happy themselves.
4) What motivates you to strive to get the most out of every day?
I hold on to the belief that I was put on this earth to do things daily that in some way enriches the lives of others around me, as well as my own¯that is all the inspiration I need to strive to make the most of each day. I am also inspired by the idea that if we had to write out our own eulogy (which isn’t a current practice), we would all live each day with more intent and meaning knowing that we’d want our lives to count for something when our time is up.
5) What is your ultimate goal for a client and their audience when a client has hired you to speak?
I understand that in order for motivation to be long-lasting, it needs to come from within us so that long after the presenter has left the speaking platform we are still motivated and inspired to do more and become more. With that in mind, my ultimate goal is to have a client’s audience hear my message and feel challenged in a way that causes them to personalize it and use it to help the peak perform at work and enhance their lives in some personal positive way moving forward.
